Saffron Pollen; Usages and Allergies

People may have an allergic reaction to different plants. Such kinds of allergic reactions rarely happen for saffron pollen. As saffron producers and farmers, we have seen some individuals who have allergic reactions to this saffron product. This is a rare thing to happen, but not impossible. Just like saffron stigmas, pollens also have cooking and industrial applications. We intend to introduce saffron pollen, also called saffron stamen or Anther, as a commercial and by-product of the saffron flower, allergen, abnormalities, usages, and how you can find them.

What is saffron pollen?

This is the yellow-colored strands of Crocus Sativus. These yellow saffron stamens, usually three in a single saffron flower, are used as yellow-coloring spice or dyer. Stamens are placed in the center of this flower together with red stigmas. They are usually collected when stripping red stigmas, in case there is customer demand. Some local people dry stamen after removing petals and stigma debris. Saffron stamens are separated by hand; therefore, this process is time and energy-consuming.

Many people did not know the properties and benefits of saffron stamen, so they discarded them, as saffron waste, for a long time. Thanks to their neighborhood with stigmas, extracts of saffron pollen have a bit of a saffron scent. They are also full of crocin, antioxidants, biochemicals, minerals, and vitamins. As they are close to stigmas, they have borrowed stigmas’ properties and benefits in lower levels.

No need to say that saffron stamen is much better than safflower, when you are deciding to not use stigmas for any purpose or if you want to pay less. They have more properties and benefits than safflowers and is a preferred product.

They can have almost the same benefits as the medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, etc. Benefits of saffron stigmas, only because it contains the same bioactive components and properties as stigmas. Therefore, to know how saffron pollen is useful in industries other than cooking, we encourage you to go through the “What are Saffron Benefits?” once again.

Where can we get saffron anthers?

Saffron anther is available in the market for sale. Some industries and individuals prefer to use the pollen of saffron instead of stigmas for its affordable price and the same properties. As a result, many Iranian saffron producers provide saffron pollen for sale in international and local markets. SunLand Saffron Company also produces saffron anther for international markets. This product is normally ordered and produced in post-saffron-harvest time. Pollen of saffron is a saffron flower by-product, which has wide application in cooking and industries, just like stigmas. The saffron pollen price depends on the overall saffron stigma price. The increase/decrease in saffron production directly affects the price of saffron and other by-products of the saffron flower. Saffron anthers have found popularity, in recent years, for their wide range of applications in industries and many affordable prices.
